The story behind our name

The “Indianhead” is the name and sign of the Second Infantry Division of the US Army. It was commissioned in 1917 in France to aid the fight on the western front against Germany in World War I. It was the force that liberated the first several French cities after D-Day at Normandy, and it continued to play instrumental roles in the Korean War and subsequent military operations today.

Col. Hinman, the owner of Indianhead’s site and operation, was commissioned as a soldier in the 2nd Indianhead Division, and deployed to the DMZ along the Korean border in the late 1960’s amid escalating tensions between North and South Korea.

Indianhead Explorations was named after one of Col. Hinman’s first military posts, and is an important part of his career history.
